Maple Lake Tree Farm, which began as a hobby for Steve and Bev Tenharmsel in 1987 is now a thriving family retail and wholesale business. Over the past 20 years the farm has grown from a six-acre sandy site in Zeeland Township to include a 30-acre clay site two miles west of Hudsonville. The clay soil site produces trees which acclimate well to the clay soil typically found in new developments. In 2000 their son-in-law, Ben Zwageman was hired to help with fieldwork and sales.
In 2005 a container tree operation was added at the Zeeland site to meet the needs of cash and carry customers.
Whether interested in purchasing one or one hundred trees, prospective customers are invited to enjoy a drive through the farm on the north side of Chicago Drive, just west of 48th Street, to see some of the thousands of trees available to both the landscaper and the homeowner.
